AMD has released their Open Source Driver for Vulkan on GitHub. This driver is intended for Radeon graphics adapters on Linux. You can find the source code repository here.

One of the most important tools in a graphics programmer's toolbox is a graphics debugger. One of the best open source graphics debuggers is RenderDoc. RenderDoc runs on Windows and Linux supporting Vulkan, Direct3D 11, Direct3D 12 and OpenGL. Read more here.

Microsoft has a GitHub repository containing all of their up-to-date DirectX Samples. Their repository has been recently updated with the initial release of the MiniEngine: A DirectX 12 Engine Starter Kit. Read more here.

Microsoft has announced the return of their Dream Build Play challenge for 2017. This challenge originally ran from 2007 to 2012 and required developers to create a game using the Microsoft XNA Framework. Unfortunately Microsoft ceased development of XNA in 2013. The return of this challenge in 2017 requires developers to build a Universal Windows Platform (UWP) game. Read more.

GameDev.net recently published an interesting article titled Critical errors in CryEngine V code. In this article the author performs static code analysis on the CryEngine code base. What follows is an educational article describing the warnings that PVS-Studio found. Read more here.

Epic Games has released Unreal Engine 4.16 Preview 1. Early adopters can test out the new features that includes: volumetric fog, FFT convolution bloom, NVIDIA NvCloth clothing solver (replaces APEX) and the new Unreal Audio Engine. Read more here.

Ali Brown of Cloud Imperium Games recently revealed that Star Citizen will be dropping support for DirectX 11 in favor of Vulkan. The move to Vulkan will see Star Citizen running on a single graphics API across Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10 and Linux. Read more here.

Epic Games has released Unreal Engine 4.15. Some of the new features in this release includes: Dramatically improved compile times; reloading of content while Unreal Editor is running; Cooking Blueprints to C++ is no longer experimental and is production ready; improved texture streaming; and Nintendo Switch support. The Khronos Group has open sourced their OpenGL and OpenGL ES Conformance Test. Read more here.

Microsoft has open sourced a new DirectX Shader Compiler on GitHub. This new DirectX HLSL compiler is based on the Clang/LLVM framework. You can read the DirectX Developer Blog post here. You can access the GitHub repository here.
